July 25, July 2 Efrén Arcoiris leads Butoh Body 12-2pm @Outerspace: What lies beneath our surface, what creature to we keep submerged in dark waters?

Efren ArcoirisWhat lies beneath our surface, what creature to we keep submerged in dark waters?

Join us at Butoh Body for the next two Sundays with guest teacher Efrén Arcoiris.

Efrén has prepared a series of exercises they learned from the brilliant teacher Mari Osanai, to allow us to feel the natural flow of water through our bodies. A guided journey through clear streams, gentle rains, storms, bogs and mires to vast oceans.  Says Efrén, “I will bring my training as a reiki master teacher to this session, with an intention for us to move though stagnant energy and rejuvenate ourselves through our collective dance.”

Efrén Arcoiris is an artist, performer, healer and teacher living in Chicago, Illinois.  Arcoiris’ performance practice draws from studies in Butoh, as well as various healing modalities and ritual structures.  They approach performance as an opportunity to mediate the relationship between self and universal and to dissolve these boundaries.  Arcoiris brings their sculpture practice to their movement work, employing object’s symbolic meanings and associations to weave a story through dance. Efren has performed at various locations in Chicago including: Links Hall, Dfbrl8r, High Concept Laboratories, 2nd Floor Rear Festival and has performed and shown internationally in Mexico City at the Museo de la Ciudad de Mexico curated by S+S Project and Perras del Museo.  Currently Arcoiris recently debuted “Odessa” with their performance collective Burning Orchid, which premiered at Links Halls in April.  Efrén Arcoiris earned their BFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago in 2008 and is also a certified Reiki Master Teacher.
