Wannapa can make any space magical with her spriteful ways. I am honored she will teach our regular Sunday Butoh Body at Outerspace Studios from 12-2pm January 22 & 29. Even if you can’t make it, I recommend spending some time with her work, and looking for her performance in April’s Butoh Fest too. Says she, “I’d love for these 2 workshops to provide us an intimate open space where we as a community can share our stories through movement by reconnecting our body and minds, and to be able to express our inner outwardly. Sparking an environment in which our bodies can respond honestly to our deeper thoughts. Each and everyone of us can create our own language using Butoh as our rosetta stone.”
Wannapa Pimtong-Eubanks is a Butoh Artist, movement coach, and actor. Her venues include Goodman Theatre, Raven Theatre, Chicago Cultural Center, The Athenaeum Theatre, Victory Garden Theatre, MCA, Links Hall, Ruth Page Center for the Arts, Access Living, and many more… She was chosen to be showcased for Dance/USA showcase 2011 at the Dance Center of Columbia College Chicago. Her experience is also including a Thai Dialect Coach (King & I at Stage 773 for Porchlight Music Theatre). Wannapa has recently been part of Laura Crotte’s theatre group to present the “Day of the Death” show for students in Chicago schools. She is an ensemble member of Body Strata collaborating with Renee Baker, Artistic Director/Music Director of Chicago Modern Orchestra Project. She is also a company member of Erasing the Distance, a non-profit arts organization based in Chicago that uses the power of performance to disarm stigma, spark dialogue, educate, and promote healing surrounding issues of mental health. Wannapa has recently conceived and produced Through My Daughter’s Eyes as part of the 2016 PopUp Series for Erasing the Distance by collaborating Theater, and Butoh in the work. She has taught Butoh workshops such as Butoh workshop for actors at Collaboraction Theatre Company, Halcyon Theatre, and individuals artists/actors as part of movement coaching. Wannapa has studied with many Butoh masters: Natsu Nakajima, The Tamanos, Yumiko Yoshioka, Katsura Kan, Akira Kasai, Tadashi Endo, and Sankai Juku.
