BB-2014Join us for the fall sessions of Butoh Body. There are now 2 opportunities every week!

Every Sunday @Outerspace 12-2pm, and Monday nights 6-8pm @HCL, MANA Contemporary.

Beginning with breath work primarily, we locate our breath in our bodies and together create a generous mindbody space to explore new ways of being. We spend time writing/drawing to formalize and ritualize the ideas that come forth, and perform short vignettes for each other to solidify and share our discoveries. Come dance your heart out~

Hiroko Tamano

This 1 minute excerpt gives a taste of Butoh legend Hiroko Tamano’s teaching, philosophies, and movement. In the “Dance of Life: a Prayer in 4 Directions”, Hiroko has built upon this Indigenous practice learned from Txi Wizz (Canadian Buffoon) over 40 years ago.

She has imbued it with her own movements and philosophy as a gift of healing and empowerment to an anxious world. In her words, “this dance form gives ‘presentness’,” and awareness of the directions “gives ‘no confusion’ to the prayer.”
